Introduction to Chopta Chandrashila Trek

Located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, the trek begins from the picturesque meadow town of Chopta. Often called the “Mini Switzerland of India,” Chopta sits at an altitude of around 2,680 meters and serves as the base for the Chandrashila summit. The trek takes you through lush green forests of rhododendron, deodar, and oak, leading to the sacred Tungnath Temple and finally to the majestic Chandrashila peak at approximately 4,000 meters above sea level.

The highlight of the trek is the panoramic 360-degree view from the Chandrashila summit. From here, trekkers can witness some of the most prominent Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedarnath. The sunrise from Chandrashila is especially mesmerizing, as the golden rays illuminate the snow-covered peaks, creating a magical experience.

Tungnath Temple – A Spiritual Journey

A key attraction on this trek is Tungnath Temple, one of the Panch Kedar temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is considered the highest Shiva temple in the world and holds immense religious significance. Pilgrims and trekkers alike visit this ancient temple, which is believed to be over 1,000 years old. The trail from Chopta to Tungnath is well-defined and relatively easy, making it accessible even for first-time trekkers.

Snowman Treks ensures that trekkers not only experience the adventure but also understand the cultural and spiritual importance of the region. Our experienced guides share fascinating stories and local legends associated with Tungnath and Chandrashila.
